PROFILE
The Queensland Antique Dealers Association (QADA) was formed in 1972. The aims of the association remain:
— To support the cultural heritage of our community through encouraging the appreciation and judicious collecting of antiques,
— To ensure that the public are served by dealers who are knowledgeable in their field and who carry out business in a professional and ethical manner,
— To further the development of the antiques industry through a cooperative approach.
Through the spirit of mutual cooperation the QADA has continued to flourish throughout the past 36 years. This is due, in no small part, to the efforts of the long standing past president, Jill Phillips, and the senior members. While a significant number of the original founders remain, they have been joined over the years by a “second generation” of dealers willing to subscribe to the ideals of the organization.
Today, QADA members are a diverse group with knowledge in all aspects of antiques dealing. They combine expertise in the areas of traditional antiques as well as moving with the times to continually encompass new avenues of collecting. QADA members also embrace antiques from other cultures and all fields of the decorative arts.
Amongst the residents of Queensland there are some who have amassed world-class collections. QADA members relish the hunt to find elusive pieces to supplement these collections. Equally they enjoy the opportunity to support the novice collector build their knowledge or to assist the decorator to find a worthy and interesting item for their home. Items sold by members will always be truthfully represented and provide lasting value for the customer.
Since the early days the QADA has staged an annual antiques fair. It is an eagerly anticipated event where the public can expect to see only genuine quality pieces, often saved by the dealers throughout the year especially for the fair. As well as providing an opportunity for the public to view and purchase from a huge range, the fair is run to benefit a worthwhile charity. Over the last six years alone in excess of $45,000 has been donated to charity.
